Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)

Requirements

Prequalification in Area Class 5.08 SUE is required for Consultants who are interested in being considered for a GDOT Contract. Refer to the current Consultant Prequalification Manual for the minimum requirements of this Area Class.

Overview

Overhead/Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is defined as the engineering processes that involve managing certain risks associated with accurately and comprehensively identifying, characterizing, and mapping overhead and underground utility facilities. The benefits include:

  • Accurate and timely utility information to the roadway designer
  • Possible reduction in utility relocation costs by allowing the designer to make informed design decisions around potential utility conflicts
  • Possible reduction in unexpected conflicts with utilities which can cause construction delays, damages, service disruptions, claims, and even injuries or lost lives

Program Status

Future Requests for Statement of Qualifications will be published at the DOAS Procurement Site. Refer to the "Supplier's Guide to eSource" on the DOAS site for instructions for registering to receive automatic notifications.​

Electronic Data Guidelines (EDG)
​The GDOT is currently supporting an EDG for each of the versions of Microstation mentioned above.  All SUE Consultants need to adhere to the appropriate version, based on the project's scope, to ensure that all work is prepared in accordance to the most current GDOT Standards.
GDOT Microstation Workspace
​The GDOT is currently supporting Microstation versions J and V8i.  All SUE Consultants need to ensure they are using the appropriate  Workspace that is applicable to the project's scope.  The Workspaces include the current custom menus, cell libraries, and linestyles that are employed and required when preparing plans for the Department.
SUE Deliverable Checklists
All SUE Consultants must complete the applicable SUE Quality Level Deliverable Checklist and provide with the submittal for review per GDOT's standards.
SUE Scope of Services
​This is the current SUE Scope of Services to be included in all GDOT contracts utilizing SUE.
