Joint Agency Data Acquisition and Management Program​m​


Program Overview

In 2021, the Georgia Department of Transportation and Atlanta Re​gional Commission officially launched a collaborative effort to identify, specify, manage, and purchase large datasets and analytics platforms.​

To ensure appropriate collaboration, the Program consists of representatives selected by a range of administrators from key GDOT divisions and ARC. As of January 2022, those members include the GDOT Offices of Planning, Program Delivery, Transportation Data, and Traffic Operations as well as the ARC teams of Modeling, Performance Analysis and Monitoring, and Regional Planning.

GDOT/ARC Big Data Program Quarterly Newsletter

This report will serve as a newsletter that will be updated quarterly showing high level metrics about the program (# of Active Users, # of New Users, # of Quires made, # of Participating Agencies) in addition to a What's New section where new features, updates, roadmaps are briefly described. All the data in this report is requested from each data provider of the program and manually entered as of now. Also included is a Upcoming Trainings, Webinars & Workshops section which is also being requested from the data providers.

GDOT/ARC Data Validation Reports Dashboard​

This report is a digitized compilation of publicly accessible data validation studies. These studies validate the quality of various datasets used as part of the Transportation Data Marketplace. GDOT and ARC utilize data from this marketplace for traffic engineering studies, traffic operations, etc.

The purpose of this dashboard is to take these validation studies and deliver their results in a more digestible format without need to read through th​e lengthy reports.

Awards​​

FY 2025

2024 GA ITE Idea Sharing Award

GThis award recognizes those individuals of the section who have shared successful ideas they have implemented with ​their peers. Recipients shall be a member of the Georgia Section and have presented their idea at a regularly scheduled Section meeting during the award calendar year.

2023 Innovation: Outside the Construction Box Award

GDOT and ARC formed a perpetual and collaborative agreement to provide access to regional and local datasets to local governments and stakeholders throughout the state of Georgia, resulting in a savings of approximately 3 million dollars across the state in the first year of the agreement.

2024 Award for Emerging Trends and Technologies

GDOT was recognized for implementing TSMO strategies and tools that leverage existing infrastructure to increase safety and ​reliability. ​

2024 TSMO Award

GDOT along with Atlanta Regional Council was honored for building a regional data alliances to drive industry-wide innovation.

Local Government Award
2024 ITS World Congress – Dubai

The award recognized Georgia DOT and the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) for the Georgia Joint Agency Transportation Data Acquisition and Management Program.​

Program Member Responsibilities

The members of the p​rogram are responsible for the following:

  1. Developing, maintaining, and updating an interagency program charter
  2. Developing, maintaining, and updating guidelines and/or policy recommendations for data acquisitions that include but are not limited to the following:
    1. Licensing requirements for personnel, interagency, and consultant usage
    2. Data use and publishing permissions
    3. Interagency gap analyses and best value assessments
  3. Developing and updating an annual budget​
