Project Description:
Forest Hill Road is an urban minor arterial that provides critical north-south mobility in northwest Macon. This roadway provides connectivity between US 41/SR 19 (Vineville Ave) to the south and Northside Drive, Riverside Drive, and I-75 to the north. The proposed project would widen Forest Hill Road to a three-lane section including curb and gutter, a multi-use path, and ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps. The project is needed to improve vehicular safety and operational efficiency as well as provide much needed pedestrian and bicycle facilities in this residential corridor. The three-lane section would improve traffic operations and match the recently completed 3-lane section along Forest Hill Road north of Wimbish Road. Currently, this corridor is lacking sidewalk connectivity, uniformity, and ADA access as well as adequate crosswalks.
