National Bike & Roll to School Day is an annual celebration held each May as part of National Bike Month that encourages students, families, and communities to safely bicycle to school while promoting healthy, safe, and active transportation. Schools and community partners can participate by organizing bike rides or bike buses (or bike trains), hosting bicycle safety education or bike rodeos, conducting helmet giveaways and helmet fit checks, recognizing student participation, and partnering with local law enforcement and bicycle community organizations to support safe, fun, and inclusive events.
National Bike & Roll to School Day helps build enthusiasm for active transportation while raising awareness of the importance of safe routes to school and creating more bicycle-friendly communities. Encourage families to try riding to school, organize a meet-up location to ride together, help families organize a bike bus, or support and promote community efforts to host group bicycle rides and Bike Rodeos.
May is the perfect time to promote bicycling and rolling safety as students head into summer. And remind adult drivers about Georgia’s bike laws. Learn more about safety resources from our partners at
