US 78/Main Street & SR 124/Scenic Highway
Displaced Left Turn Intersection

Georgia DOT is reconfiguring the intersection of US 78/Main Street and SR 124/Scenic Highway. The new Displaced Left Turn (DLT) improvements will increase the number of vehicles that can move through the intersection and help the intersection to operate more efficiently.

      How to Navigate the Displaced Left Turn Intersection

      US 78 & SR 124 Continuous Flow Intersection


      A: Turning Right From US 78/Main St

      Proceed to the intersection and turn right as you normally would, but you must yield to other vehicles that are traveling straight on SR 124/Scenic Hwy or turning left from US 78/Main St in the opposite direction. You must also stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk.


      B: Going Straight Along US 78/Main St.

      When the traffic signal turns green, proceed as you normally would through the intersection. Just past the intersection at SR 124/Scenic Hwy, you will cross over lanes for opposing traffic and proceed straight on US 78/Main St.


      C: Turning Right From SR 124/Scenic Hwy

      On southbound SR 124/Scenic Hwy:

      • Get in the dedicated right turn lane and proceed to the intersection.
      • If the traffic signal is a red arrow, you must stop; if it is a flashing yellow arrow, you may turn right after stopping for pedestrians. On northbound SR 124/Scenic Hwy:
      • No right turn is permitted onto eastbound US 78/Main St. Drivers who wish to head east on US 78/Main St should turn right on Henry Clower Blvd (to the south) and then turn right on US 78/Main St.

      D: Going Straight Along SR 124/Scenic Hwy

      When the traffic signal turns green, proceed as you normally would through the intersection.


      E: Turning Left From SR 124/Scenic Hwy

      On southbound SR 124/Scenic Hwy:

      • Get in the dedicated left turn lane.
      • At the traffic signal, when the left turn arrow is green, turn left onto eastbound US 78/Main St.
      • If there is a flashing yellow arrow, you may turn left, but you must yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians in the crosswalk.

      On northbound SR 124/Scenic Hwy:

      • No left turn is permitted onto westbound US 78/Main St. Drivers who wish to head west on US 78/Main St should turn left on Henry Clower Blvd (to the south) and then turn left on US 78/Main St.
