Lane Closures Suspended for Christmas and New Year's Holidays

Georgia DOT is restricting construction lane closures on interstates and major state routes near tourist locations and large shopping centers during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Lane closures will be restricted between 5AM, Tuesday, December 23 and 10PM Sunday, December 28 and again from 5AM Wednesday, December 31 to 5AM Friday, January 2 to allow for increased holiday traffic.

Please obey posted speed limits and allow extra travel time for congested highways. Also, remember that real-time traffic information is available by contacting 511, using the mobile app or logging on to

Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) is a FREE peer-to-peer safety program designed to reduce the frequency of fatal crashes involving teen drivers by targeting young people behind the wheel. Georgia DOT and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) have partnered together and developed safety messages surrounding the five major causes of accidents:

  • Driving at Night
  • Speeding and Racing
  • Distractions
  • Seat Belt Usage
  • Drugs and Alcohol
