Major I-16 & I-20 Rehabilitation Projects Announced

Georgia DOT announced bid awards on 13 new highway infrastructure improvement projects. This includes more than 42 miles of I-20 in Greene, Taliaferro, Warren and McDuffie counties for an $8.9 million pavement rehabilitation project. In west Chatham County, a $5.4 million rehabilitiation project has been authorized for 11 miles on I-16. Also, a $12.6 million project is slated in Laurens County for a new two-lane bridge across the Oconee River.

Variable Speed Limits (VSL)

​New VSL signs will be launched on I-285 Top End on October 5, 2014.

 Teens in the Driver Seat


Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) is a FREE peer-to-peer safety program designed to reduce the frequency of fatal crashes involving teen drivers by targeting young people behind the wheel. Georgia DOT and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) have partnered together and developed safety messages surrounding the five major causes of accidents:

  • Driving at Night
  • Speeding and Racing
  • Distractions
  • Seat Belt Usage
  • Drugs and Alcohol

Drive Smart Video Series

Watch Georgia DOT's series of educational videos about the impact of distracting driving. This video series was released in support of the Federal Highway Administration's Toward Zero Deaths initiative to reduce fatalities on the roadways .
