Highway System Status Map Series
The maps below show the State Highway, U.S. Route, and Highway Functional Classifications Systems for Georgia as of October 1, 2007.
These maps provide the most current functional classifications on Georgia's public road system. They are accurate for all road classifications higher than local roads.
Roads that are not symbolized or shown on these maps are presently classified as either a rural or urban local road. State Route designations of 740 or higher on these maps are used for administrative purposes only and do not indicate Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) maintenance responsibility, nor are they posted on Georgia's State Routes.
In addition to functional classification, these maps reflect the current State Highway and U.S. Route System designations on Georgia's public road system.
Functional classification system revisions are initially coordinated with the appropriate local planning agency, then approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
State Highway revisions are approved by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Commissioner. Major revisions to the U.S. Route Numbering System are approved by the American Association of Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
Typically, we post the updated Highway System Status Maps (HSSM) to this website on a quarterly basis.
Currently, we are in the process of upgrading the computer software used to generate these maps and we anticipate that it will be April 16, 2009, before we post the new revised versions of these maps to this website.
