Project Selection

The Georgia DOT searched existing transportation programs such as the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and the Construction Work Program (CWP) for projects that would have the most immediate impact on congestion and could add capacity throughout the state.

The projects identified and funded through the Fast Forward Program will provide both short and long-term congestion relief and economic development improvements:

Short Term Congestion Relief

• Intelligent Transportation System 
• Highway Emergency Response Operators (HERO) Expansion 
• Ramp Metering Expansion 
• Signal Timing and Synchronization Upgrades

Long Term Congestion Relief

• High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Expansion
• New Transit Corridors Implementation

Economic Development Improvements

• Interstate Capacity Improvements
