High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Expansion

$1.3 billion to accelerate expansion of HOV lanes. This consists of constructing an additional 52 miles of HOV lanes.

This addition will:

  • Decrease commute times for carpools and bus patrons
  • Increase vehicle occupancy rates 
  • Provide a network for transit systems 
  • Improve air quality 
  • Relieve congestion

Current and future HOV lanes form the foundation for the current and expanded Bus Rapid Transit System. The HOV lane expansion will also assist Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Gwinnett Transit and Cobb Community Transit.

New Transit Corridors Implementation

$286 million will assist in starting new Bus Rapid Transit services on two heavily congested corridors in the metro Atlanta area.

  • Provide enhanced transit capability between major activity centers in the Atlanta region 
  • Allows the leveraging of $482.2 Million in GARVEE and GO bonds toward $425.4 Million in FTA new start dollars 
  • Most cost effective transit projects in reducing congested vehicle miles traveled
