Georgia Statewide Truck Lane Needs Identification Study
Truck only lanes is a transportation design concept that separates heavy trucks from general traffic. Sharp increases in truck traffic and projections of continued growth has caused many transportation agencies to look at truck only lanes as a way to improve traffic flow and reduce truck-auto incidents.
In Georgia, truck traffic is increasing faster than general traffic. A recent Georgia Road and Tollway Authority exploratory study indicated that constructing truck-only lanes in the Atlanta region would decrease traffic congestion.
