Public Meetings

Purpose

Public and stakeholder involvement are important to the success of the study.  A public involvement process has been established for the CCNMP Study to ensure appropriate input from stakeholders and the general public to promote understanding, cooperation, and support for the study.  This is a proactive process focused on information sharing, input, and interaction. The continuous involvement of key stakeholders and the general public will increase support for the recommendations of the CCNMP Study and ensure that they meet the diverse needs of both park visitors and community residents.

Vision and Guiding Principles

The public involvement effort for the development of the CCNMP Traffic Impact Study and Subarea Transportation Plan will provide early and ongoing opportunities to share information, bring together varied points of view, and obtain input from diverse stakeholders. The overall goal for the stakeholder and public involvement is to achieve mutual understanding of the transportation needs of the CCNMP and its surrounding communities among all concerned "stakeholders", develop a common vision for meeting transportation needs, and build support and consensus for the recommendations of the CCNMP Traffic Impact Study and Subarea Transportation Plan. The guiding principles for stakeholder and public involvement are as follows:

  • Promote an inclusive outreach process and active role for stakeholders, paying special attention to soliciting input from a wide array of stakeholders.
  • Provide for early and continuous involvement of key stakeholders, including adjacent "gateway" communities, traditionally underrepresented stakeholders, and national groups interested in the CCNMP.
  • Establish and maintain dialogue among the local elected officials, community leaders, and public agencies in carrying out the study.
  • Foster an attitude of cooperation and build credibility and support for the study and plan development process.
  • Strive for consensus on plan goals, alternatives, and the recommendations.
  • Ensure an educational and informational component for stakeholders and the general public.
  • Learn from stakeholders and the general public about their ideas for meeting the transportation needs of the various communities and this important historical, cultural, and natural resource.

The public involvement process for the CCNMP includes a wide range of activities to involve the general public and obtain feedback.  These outreach activities include the following:
