Pilot Program Goals

• Increase public awareness about roadside litter problem, including exorbitant resources allocated to pick-up; health, safety and environmental impacts; and legal issues.
• Impact public perceptions/attitudes about litter as quality-of-life issue for our communities.
• Develop successful outreach strategies for target audiences that could serve as a model for a statewide campaign.
• Promote Adopt-A-Highway
• Determine point of diminishing return on Department's annual costs

Strategy

Prevent all forms of litter, including:

• Car trash tossing (i.e. cigarette butts, fast food packaging)
• Debris from unsecured loads
• Illegal dumping
