Environment Programs

GDOT manages several programs that improve our environment and beautify our roads and highways.

  • Adopt-A-Highway program encourages civic associations, individuals, corporations and other groups to removing litter and otherwise beautifying short lengths of highway or state roads.

  • Air Quality program, CMAQ, helps local governments improve air quality through traffic congestion relief.

  • Landscaping and roadside enhancements and beautification within state right-of-way areas requires a Special Encroachment Permit and approval from the Georgia DOT Maintenance Office.

  • Litter Prevention is an on-going campaign to remind travelers to keep our roads attractive by the simple act of not littering.

  • Wildflower program is part of GDOT's ongoing highway and roadway landscaping effort.  GDOT plants native wildflowers along highway right of ways and medians to provide beautiful color for Georgia's motorists and travelers.  Visit the Wildflower page to see what GDOT plants and how you can incorporate wildflowers in your own garden.
