As part of the CRD agreement new express service buses, expanded park and ride facilities, and an orderly flow of transit into and out of downtown are all expected to be part of the I-85 Express Lanes project from I-285 to Old Peachtree Road by Summer 2010 (Phase I).
The project calls for the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) to use $36 million of the project funds for transit enhancements including the purchase of 36 new passenger coaches for seven new routes. The preliminary procurement process for the buses is already underway. New and enhanced park and ride facilities are also part of the program, which will help relieve congestion on the I-85 corridor.
