Project Description

The proposed project would replace the existing Mitchell Street Bridge located over CSX Railroad between Techwood Drive and Spring Street. The existing bridge is in need of replacement due to inadequate load limits and a low sufficiency rating of 38.1. The bridge was constructed in 1924 and reconstructed in 1940.  The bridge functions not only as a major connecting route into the city from the west for regular vehicles, but also supports transit buses. This project would replace the deficient structure with a bridge to meet the load limits and bring it up to current standards. The purpose of this project is to correct bridge deficiency, serve the transportation demand generated by the increase in employment and through traffic, and improve the safety of the roadway.
