Interstate 75 Reconstruction in South Georgia
Real-Time Traffic Information
Overview
Contractors for Georgia DOT will perform major reconstruction of Interstate 75 from S.R. 37 (Exit Number 39) in Adel to the Crisp/Dooly County Line. This reconstruction effort, which will be divided into four individual projects, will consist of widening from four existing to six new lanes, resurfacing of existing pavement and the installation of a median barrier. Contractors will also raise existing overpass bridges to provide a minimum vertical clearance over the interstate.
Drivers will encounter intermediate work adjacent to travel lanes, reduced speeds and narrowed lanes.

Why Are Lane Closures Necessary?
The closures are necessary to allow crews to resurface the existing lanes and construct new lanes. This portion of the Interstate was constructed nearly 40 years ago. Since that time, I-75 has become the main route through central Georgia and vehicular traffic has increased significantly. Daily, approximately 40,000 vehicles travel on this section of highway. This figure rises to nearly 100,000 during peak travel periods. The latest advances in construction and asphalt mix technology will be utilized in this reconstruction.
Georgia DOT is committed to minimizing inconvenience to the traveling public and to providing safe conditions for motorists and workers. The magnitude of these projects and equipment needed to complete them on schedule warrant these lane closures.
Minimum Inconvenience
Because of the size and extent of these projects, work could easily impact travelers for several years. However, Georgia DOT will make every effort to minimize these impacts by requiring contractors to perform work at off-peak hours when possible. Motorists are urged to consider alternate routes during peak construction periods.
Maximum Safety
These lane closures will offer motorists and workers the safest alternative. These projects will require near-constant truck entries and exits into traveling lanes with many crews working on and adjacent to the roadway throughout the night when visibility diminishes.
Motorists are urged to obey posted speed limit signs and construction warning signs.
