Georgia’s Move Over Law Saves Lives
Did you know that there’s a law in Georgia that says drivers must move over
for emergency vehicles stopped on the side of the highway? It protects you
and the lives of emergency responders.
The Move Over Law was passed in the aftermath of growing numbers of police,
emergency responders, and Georgia DOT workers being killed during routine
traffic stops, crashes, and roadwork projects. In Georgia, you can be fined
$500 for failing to obey, but the consequences of not moving over can be
much worse. According to FBI statistics, traffic crashes claim the lives of
more police officers than any other cause of death in the line of duty,
including shootings.
