Civil Engineering at Georgia DOT

Georgia DOT is the transportation engineering agency for the state, and our mission is to provide a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia’s economy and is sensitive to its citizens and environment. Civil engineering is the core expertise underpinning most work units in the organization and is practiced in numerous specialty areas including transportation planning; environment/location studies; road, urban and bridge design; construction-materials research; geotechnical studies; traffic operations; traffic safety studies and intersection design; road/bridge construction inspection; and maintenance.

There is a strong commitment to excellence in both Georgia DOT work processes and the work products. This commitment is grounded in a long standing tradition of engineering professionalism and pride in work performance. An example of this ongoing commitment-to-excellence is seen in the interconnection and close coordination of the various work units: Georgia DOT engineers from many specialty areas and organizational units work closely together on large-scale, multi-phased projects to produce highly beneficial outcomes that appear seamless to the traveling public.
