GDOT MicroStation V8 XM® and InRoads Status 1st  Quarter (January - March 2008)

February 2008: Engineering Software TEAM to Review Plotting formats

  • The Engineering Software TEAM will review possible new plotting formats for use in MicroStation. The development of InRoads components and Quantity Manager set-ups are continuing.

  • The Engineering Software TEAM is tentatively scheduled to meet with Bentley (on February 14, 2008) to discuss the current status of the GDOT MicroStation configuration set-up and InRoads set-up.

January 2008: Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley Developing InRoads Quantity Manager Configuration

  • The Engineering Software TEAM and Bentley are developing the InRoads Quantity Manager variables, pay items database and multipliers for use in Quantity calculations. The set-up of InRoads components is continuing in conjunction with the corresponding Quantity Manager development.

  • The MicroStation configuration is continuing to be developed to include levels for transparency, 2D/3D Seed files and an MDL for unit checks. An InRoads task meeting is scheduled for (January 3, 2008) to discuss resources for the MicroStation/InRoads development schedule.

MicroStation V8 XM and InRoads Status 4th Quarter (October - December 2007)

December 2007: Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley developing MicroStation Configuration Standards

  • The Engineering Software TEAM and Bentley are working on the set-up of MicroStation configurations. This includes the development of Level Naming/ByLevel schemes, Level filters, DGNLibs, linestyles, textstyles, definitions files, workspace and administrative set-ups, etc. A custom interface is being developed to replace Bar Menus.

  • The new InRoads Survey/Photogrammetry Feature Codes are also being configured as independent MicroStation Level Names in order to use ByLevel in the InRoads Preference Files.

 November 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley Task Meeting to discuss GDOT MicroStation Configuration Standards

  • The Engineering Software TEAM is tentatively scheduled to attend an InRoads Project Meeting Conference Call with Bentley (on November 8, 2007) to discuss the current status of the InRoads/MicroStation migration.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is tentatively scheduled to meet with Bentley (on November 26-30, 2007) to discuss the GDOT MicroStation configuration set-up and InRoads Feature Style and MicroStation Symbology integration.

October 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley Developing InRoads Components and Templates

  • The Engineering Software TEAM and Bentley continues to develop the InRoads Components and Templates to GDOT standards. A Component Naming structure and InRoads Template Library (ITL) Folder structure is established to organize the components, end conditions, and templates.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is tentatively scheduled to meet with Bentley (on October 25-26) to discuss the GDOT MicroStation configuration set-up. The EST (Support Staff) is also attending the InRoads Conference (on October 22-24).

MicroStation V8 XM and InRoads Status 3rd Quarter (July - September 2007)

September 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM InRoads Component Training (for Support Staff)
  • The Engineering Software TEAM (Support Staff) attended InRoads Templates and Components Training at the Office of Materials and Research (on September 24 -27, 2007). The Engineering Software TEAM and Bentley are initiating the development of InRoads components/templates to correpond to current GDOT standards. Component point naming conventions are being established and Feature Styles created to correspond to MicroStation Level Naming schemes.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is working on customizing tutorials/training datasets and guidelines for the Field Survey and Mapping Enhancement processes.

August 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM/Photogrammetry Meeting to discuss InRoads Photogrammetric Processes

  • An InRoads Photogrammetry Presentation was held at the Office of Environment/Location (on August 15, 2007) to present the InRoads Photogrammetry process for review and discussion. The InRoads Photogrammetry tutorials/training datasets have been created for GDOT Photogrammetrists to ensure the current established processes conform to GDOT Photogrammetric Standards.
  • A MicroStation task meeting was held (on August 21-22, 2007) to discuss the strategies available for customizing MicroStation DGNLib's, Resource Files, Levels and other MicroStation configuration processes to GDOT standards.

July 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley Task Meeting to discuss Survey Enhancements

  • An InRoads task meeting was held (on July 3, 2007) to review the current status of the GDOT customized Style Sheets. Also discussed was the functionality of the Legal Description (XML) to include bandwidth options for multiple selections of points/alignments for use in R/W Tables and Deeds.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is developing processes and procedures for resolving crossing breakline segments and mismatched elevations to correspond to the current GDOT delta tolerance. A work-flow process is also being developed for the incorporation of field survey data enhancements into the design database. The next tentative Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley task conference is scheduled for July 13, 2007.

MicroStation V8 XM and InRoads Status 2nd Quarter (April - June 2007)

June 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley Task Meeting to discuss GDOT customized GDOT Style Sheets

  • An InRoads task meeting was held (on June 21, 2007) to review InRoads Action Items pertaining to modifications to the GDOT InRoads customized Style Sheets. This includes modifications to the Stakeout Survey Data Style Sheet, the Cross-Slope Style Sheet, the Surface Check Style Sheet and the R/W Style Sheet.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is working on the customization of attributes in the XIN file for the dimensioning of Culverts, Drain Pipes, Fences, Wells, Control Deltas, etc. A stand-alone SRV Translator is also being coded to convert "old" SRV Feature Codes to the corresponding InRoads Feature Styles.

May 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley Task Meeting to discuss customized GDOT Survey Translators

  • An InRoads task meeting was initiated (on May 10 and May 24, 2007) to discuss InRoads Action Items pertaining to the generation of the InRoads AMSA Translator, the SRV Translator and the ASC Survey Import Translator. The AMSA and the SRV Translator have been modified from the previous versions to include a function to "rename" feature points in order to account for duplicate point names.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is working on the customization of the InRoads XIN file to create filters to assist in the importation of ASC Survey Data to a Geometry Project (.alg file). Filters have also been created for several Surface commands to assist in the automation of viewing Surface Features.

April 2007 : Task Meeting with Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley to discuss Project Status

  • An InRoads task meeting was initiated (on April 12, 2007) to discuss InRoads Action Items pertaining to COGO processes and GDOT customized Style Sheets. These task meetings will be held bi-weekly to discuss the MicroStation V8 and InRoads status and development processes.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is currently testing the customized InRoads Style Sheets for generation of EndArea Reports, "Compressed" EndArea Reports, Right of Way and Easement Description Tables, Deed.out files and Surface Check Reports. The Engineering Software TEAM is continuing the development of Survey Processing Standards, survey training datasets and the associated survey deliverables to be submitted to Design.

March 2007 : Meeting with Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley to discuss Coordinate Geometry Processes

  • An InRoads task meeting is tentatively scheduled (for March 28, 2007) with the Engineering Software TEAM and the Bentley Project Managers for discussion of InRoads Coordinate Geometry and Survey Processes.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is currently developing Survey Data Processing standards. This includes Coordinate Geometry (COGO) procedures for creating Existing Right of Way, Existing Alignments and Property Alignments.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is working with Bentley to develop an InRoads Macro and style sheet for generation of Right of Way Tables and Deed.out Files.

February 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM developing standards for Survey Data Processing

  • The Engineering Software TEAM (EST) is initiating standards for Survey Data Processing. This includes the establishment of standard file names, point names, alignment names and number schemes. The EST is creating Survey Processing workflows for generating Coordinate Geometry (COGO) and Digital Terrain Model (DTM) data. Procedures are being developed to submit the processed survey data as well as any enhanced data to Designers for project design.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is currently working with Bentley to develop an InRoads Macro for a "DTM Check Program" for verification of original Digital Terrain Model data.

January 2007 : Engineering Software TEAM working on the Processes for Photogrammetry/Field Survey

  • The MicroStation V8 and InRoads Implementation TEAM met (January 19th) to discuss the currents status of the development of GDOT standards for Photogrammetry and Field Survey processes. Training Datasets and Lab Tutorials for Photogrammetry/Field Survey are being developed along with the associated guidelines to document the Mapping/Field Survey Standards. An AMSA to InRoads Translator Program is being coded in order to translate and import Photogrammetry Data into InRoads.
  • The Mapping and Field Survey (Codes, Symbology and Styles) have been added to the InRoads Preference File (XIN File) along with Customized Operations for codes which contain Attributes.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is working on processes and standards in InRoads for establishing Existing Property Lines and Existing Right of Way which are based off plats and deeds.
  • The Engineering Software TEAM is currently working with Bentley to develop InRoads Macros for a "Compressed Endarea Report" and a "Write Endarea Report" for generation of InRoads Earthwork Reports.  

MicroStation V8 XM and InRoads Status 4th Quarter (October - December 2006)

December 2006 : Engineering Software TEAM working on the development of Mapping/Field Survey Standards

  • The Engineering Software TEAM is working on the generation of procedures for importation of Mapping and Field Survey data into InRoads. A conversion program has been coded to convert old AMSA Codes to the updated AMSA codes for use in InRoads. The AMSA and Field Survey Codes have been compiled into one complete Feature Styles List. The Mapping and Field Survey Feature Styles are currently being added to the InRoads Preferences file. Development of Documentation and Guidelines for the generation of Mapping/Field Survey Data are being initiated.

November 2006 : Meetings with Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley to discuss Mapping/Survey Standards

  • The Engineering Software TEAM met with Bentley Project Managers (on November 27th and 28th) to discuss the development of GDOT standards for the Photogrammetry (Mapping) process and Field Survey Collection process. Topics and procedures discussed included: conversion of Mapping "RAW" files to InRoads, the generation of the Mapping DTM (Digitial Terrain Model), the creation of a Field Survey DTM and the Merging of the DTM's into one EXIST DTM.

October 2006 : Meetings with Engineering Software TEAM/Bentley to discuss GDOT File Standardizations

  • The Engineering Software TEAM continued to meet to coordinate the process of creating InRoads and MicroStation v8 standards for project development. An InRoads task meeting is tentatively scheduled (for the week of October 9th) with the Engineering Software TEAM and the Bentley Project Managers for continued discussion of InRoads standardization. 

MicroStation V8 XM and InRoads Status 3rd Quarter (July-September 2006)

September 2006 : Meetings with Bentley Project Manager to discuss GDOT Standards

  • The Engineering Software TEAM and Bentley Project Manager met (September 6, 2006) to discuss the process of converting the GDOT Standard CAiCE macros to comparable functions in InRoads. On (September 22, 2006) the Engineering Software TEAM and Bentley Project Manager met to discuss the process of creating standard symbology/styles/preferences to be incorporated into the InRoads preference/.XIN files for project development.

August 2006 : Meetings with OEL and Intro to V8/InRoads Training

  • The Engineering Software TEAM and Bentley Project Manager met with the Office of Environment and Location (August 10 and 22, 2006) to discuss survey data formats and deliverables into InRoads. Also, four days of introductory training has been scheduled for additional GDOT personnel (August 28 - September 1, 2006).

July 2006 : Meetings with Bentley Project Manager

  • The Engineering Software TEAM continued coordination with the Bentley Project Manager to narrowly define initial tasks and set schedules and meeting dates.

June 2006 : Meeting with Bentley Project Manager

  • The Engineering Software TEAM met for two days (June 21/22-2006) with the Bentley Project Mangager to discuss the implementation process for migrating GDOT to the MicroStation V8 and InRoads software products.

May 2006 : InRoads Training (for Support Staff)

  • The Engineering Software TEAM and the MicroStation V8/InRoads Implementation Team attended five days (May 1-5, 2006) of the "initial" Introduction to InRoads training for support staff.

May 2006 : EDG Update Released

  • The Electronic Data Guidelines V2.0 (EDG dated 3-15-06) was updated to reflect enhancements and modifications which correspond to the current production version of the MicroStation J CADD software.

April 2006 : MicroStation V8 Training (for Support Staff)

  • The Engineering Software TEAM and the MicroStation V8/InRoads Implementation Team attended two days (April 10-11, 2006) of the "initial" Introduction to MicroStation V8 training for support staff. The Engineering Software TEAM attended three additional days of training (April 12-14, 2006) of Managing MicroStation V8 for support staff.

March 2006 : Implementation Team Selected

  • The MicroStation V8/InRoads Implementation Team was selected. The Team consists of members from the Engineering Software TEAM, Bridge Design, Urban Design, Road Design, Office of Environment/Location and District Design offices.

March 2006 : Initial Implementation Plan Meeting

  • An initial implementation plan meeting was attended/conducted by conference call with members represented by Bentley and the Engineering Software TEAM. Initial training for support staff was discussed along with a prospective timeline for additional implementation staff meetings.

February 2006 : Contract Awarded

  • The contract for the purchase of MicroStation V8 and InRoads was implemented.
