Local Government

Georgia DOT has a wide range of transportation programs and services that aid local government agencies in maintaining their local transportation systems.

Georgia DOT is taking an active role in reducing the number of fatalities on Off-System roads. The Off-System Safety Program (OSS) is intended to enhance off –system safety using a data driven approach. The program focuses on low-cost safety improvements that can be implemented within the existing rights of way that are likely to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes.

How it Works

The OSS program is administered by the Local Grants Office. Allocation of funds will not be based on even distribution among local jurisdictions or congressional districts. Projects and routes will be selected based on safety needs using crash summaries that are updated annually by Traffic Operations. NOTE: OSS is not a grant program.
