      I-75 & I-85 Named National Electric Vehicle Charging Corridors

      The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently added I-75 and I-85 to the national network of alternative fueling and electric vehicle charging corridors. These corridors are comprised of 48 Interstate Highways covering nearly 25,000 miles in 35 states.

      I-85, nominated as an Alternative Fuel Corridor by Georgia DOT, runs 179 miles through Georgia. I-85 is designated signage-ready for electric vehicles (EV) from Commerce, Ga. to the Alabama border and for compressed natural gas (CNG) from the South Carolina border to College Park (Metro Atlanta). The corridor is signage-pending for EV from Commerce to the South Carolina border and for CNG from College Park to the Alabama border.

      I-75 was nominated by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) as an Alternative Fuel Corridor, runs 355 miles through Georgia from Tennessee to Florida,. It is designated signage-ready for electric vehicles from the Tennessee border to Warner Robins and from Tifton to Valdosta; and for CNG along the entire corridor. It is designated signage-pending for EV from Warner Robins to Tifton and Valdosta to the Florida border.

      Georgia DOT's Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is the integration of technology, information processing and communication that leads to easier travel, increased safety and savings in time and transportation expenses. The ITS system feeds the Georgia 511 information network to provide travelers with real-time information on Georgia's highways, freeways and streets.

      Georgia DOT has partnered with Adopt-A-Highway Maintenance Corporation to bring Sponsor-A-Highway to Georgia. This program invites businesses to financially sponsor litter removal on designated state highways in the Metropolitan Atlanta area. The program also provides for cleaner highways and fewer safety hazards for the travelling public.

      Benefit

      Participating in the program gives businesses the opportunity to be recognized as an environmental supporter with a civic pride and a sense of community responsibility. Sponsors are recognized with color signage, featuring the company name and logo that places your company in front of thousands of potential customers daily. Sponsorships provide the funding for each mile of sponsored highway to be picked up by a GDOT approved vendor no less than twelve (12) times a year.
