Georgia DOT recently replaced the two-lane SR 299 bridge at I-24 in Dade County, north of the City of Trenton. This project involved the construction of two 12-foot travel lanes and two 8-foot shoulders.
Georgia DOT employed an innovative, accelerated method to replace the SR 299 bridge at I-24 over a single weekend (May 12-14, 2017). The bridge was replaced using the Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) method, a technique designed to shorten construction times and minimize impact on the traveling public. The ABC method allowed the existing bridge removal and new bridge installation to occur within a 56-hour time period.
