This project is a 20-mile widening of SR 20 from I-575 in Canton to Cumming. Jurisdictions along the corridor include the City of Canton, unincorporated communities of Buffington, Macedonia, Orange, and Free Home in Cherokee County, as well as the unincorporated community of Ducktown and the City of Cumming in Forsyth County.

Video Simulation

In order to help you visualize the project, our team has created a video simulation drive through. The video is broken up into 4 sections, so you can watch just the segment that affects you or you can virtually drive from I-575 to North Corners Parkway.


      Intersection Simulation

      As part of the SR 20 Improvements Project, a number of intersections are being reconstructed. We have developed a 360-degree rendering for each intersection. To get a better understanding of how these intersections will function, please click on the corresponding number in the map below.

      Project Documents


      The project team has worked to refine the concept based on traffic analysis, engineering requirements, and public comment. Changes to the project concept include:

      • Revised locations of multiple RCUTs
      • Removed median U-Turn (MUT) intersections and incorporated traditional intersections at Bethelview and Post Roads
      • Revised and added truck turn around locations
      • Revised multiple detention pond locations and sizes

      • Begin construction on project PI 009164, which spans from I-575 to Scott Road in Cherokee County.
      • Widening from 2-6 lanes (3 lanes in each direction), variable width raised median (min 20 ft.)
      • Urban shoulders with curb and gutter, 5ft sidewalks
      • Turn lanes at major driveways & intersections
      • R-cuts for turnaround to opposite direction, full median breaks at key locations, & signals at major intersections
