Public Information Open House (May 2017)

Georgia DOT will hold a series of Public Information Open Houses to discuss improvements to SR 20 from Canton to Cumming (I-575 to the west side of Cumming). The Department will present a refined concept alternative to address comments heard in December 2016 to widen SR 20 along its existing route. The public is invited to review project information and displays and provide comments.

Scott Road to North Corners Parkway (Canton/Cumming)SR 400 - I-575

Georgia DOT is developing potential improvements along SR 20 from I-575 in Canton to the west side of Cumming. SR 20 is a major east-west thoroughfare on the northern edge of Metropolitan Atlanta. Residents and the commuting public experience congestion, limited mobility, and safety issues along this heavily traveled corridor.

SR 20 From I-575 to CR 281/Scott Road (Cherokee) PI: 0009164 SR 20 From I-575 to CR 281/Scott Road

The proposed project is located in central Cherokee County, partially in the City of Canton. The project begins 0.34 miles east of I-575 in the City of Canton and ends 0.15 miles east of CR 281/Scott Road. The proposed roadway will consist of three 12-ft lanes in each direction, a 20-ft raised median with breaks at major intersections, and sidewalks on each side. The project is in the preliminary phase. With a ROW Authorization of June 2017, and a Letting date of June 2018.

Burnette Trail to Peachtree Ind Blvd (Gwinnett) PI:0004430 Mountain Ridge Rd to Peachtree Ind Blvd

The proposed project would widen SR 20 from a two lane rural section to a four lane urban section from approximately 1,000 feet west of Mountain Ridge Road to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Gwinnett County.

CR 80/Samples Rd to CR 450/James Burgess Rd (Forsyth/Gwinnett) PI:0002392 CR 80/Samples Rd to CR 450/James Burgess Rd

This project is the widening and reconstruction of SR 20 from just south of Samples Road/CR 80 to James Burgess Road/CR 450 for a total of 2.68 miles. The purpose of the project is to improve east-west mobility along SR 20, which serves as a primary arterial between Forsyth County and Gwinnett County in this location.

Schedule: Scoping in 2013, PE in 2017 Project is in Concept phase.
Right-of-Way and construction will be determined once scope and cost are better defined.
