The I-285/I-20 West Interchange project will improve traffic flow and enhance safety at the busy I-285/I-20 west interchange. The project will serve Georgians by improving congestion, safety and functionality for drivers, transit riders, and freight operators.

  1. Adds new lane miles along I-20
  2. Constructs collector-distributor (CD) lanes that run parallel to the interstate and help improve traffic flow, speed and safety
  3. The project provides more efficient traffic flow and operational/safety performance enhancements
  4. May include connections to the I-285 Westside Express Lanes in the future
  5. One of the initial 11 large-scale Major Mobility Investment Program projects to improve transportation in Georgia’s metro areas

 Project Status - Timeline

Georgia DOT will soon be performing environmental studies and traffic analysis for the project. The preliminary cost estimate is $790 million. Both the schedule and estimated cost are subject to change.

The project is part of Georgia DOT’s Major Mobility Investment Program, which currently includes an initial 11 large-scale projects that will build a better Georgia by enhancing mobility and safety, fueling economic growth, and improving Georgians’ quality of life.
